Language comes from the need of people to communicate with words. In the beginning, people used to point at things to make clear what they meant. Then people started to make certain sounds to prove their point, the sounds later on changed to words. Those words developed into the languages that we use nowadays.
A consequence for teaching a second language is that the student won’t be able to see the second language apart from their mother tongue. For example the word “loves”, the s is pronounced as a z, but a Dutch speaker will pronounce it as a s because in Dutch words don’t end in a z. This means that you, as a teacher, have to be very clear that in the English language words can end in a z.

I believe that almost everyone (if not everyone) thinks in a language. I think in Dutch, but when I am working on homework or something else regarding English, I think in the English language.
In my opinion, do most people think faster than they speak. The reason why I believe this to be true is because you have to think before you speak. There are, of course, always exceptions, people who say rude things without thinking about the consequences first. Most people do think about what they are going to say first, for example lawyers. They can’t just blurt out everything they think because it can harm their client.

When it comes to dreaming, I believe that my dreams are always in Dutch. I guess that people dream in the language that they speak, so if you stay in a foreign country for a long time, you will start to dream in the foreign language. My father said that he experienced this when staying in Ireland for a few weeks.
Blind people dream too, but their dreams depend on the person being born blind or that they became blind at a later age. When the person is born blind, the dreams often consist of sounds, touch, taste and smells. When a person became blind at a later age, their dreams can contain images. These images don’t have to be clear, sometimes they’re just colours or vague figures. Deaf people are able to hear in their dreams, but only if they weren’t born deaf. People who are both deaf and blind are able to dream as well, but their dreams are more abstract. Deaf people, as well as blind people tend to have more nightmares than people who have all their senses.
