When teaching a language like English you shouldn’t just use one theory to base all your lessons on. Mainly because almost all of them have downsides as well. Therefore I believe that I will use multiple theories in my lessons. For example, the audiolingual method seems genuinely useful to me because it will help pupils to experience the English language in a more realistic way (by hearing native speakers talk) rather than just reading about the language. On the other hand, I would consider this method incomplete, because it does not really focus on grammatical rules. Personally, I do find the reading approach important as well because reading seriously improves a pupils vocabulary and helps them to gain more knowledge on grammar and writing. In conclusion I would say that it is good to use a bit from every theory to create variety in your lessons, because every theory has its good and its down-sides. When we take a look at the silent way, we see more downsides than positive aspects, but I’m convinced that letting the students work in silence once in a while does help them to become more independent, as long as you vary it by having enough lessons in which they can ask for help if needed.
